As the weight of the average American continues to climb, it’s a good time to investigate which cats and breeds are tipping the scale — or more specifically, THE FATTEST CAT IN THE WORLD!
The fattest cat in the world right now goes by the name of Liznya. She resides in Russia and is quite popular on Instagram.
At her heaviest, Liznya ate 29g of Royal Canin diet cat food, just to lose weight. Her owner won’t disclose her exact weight, but it’s clear she is one enormous kitty. The owner shared via Instagram that she has received numerous death threats because of the Liznya’s condition. Even in her bio, Liznya’s owner states that she does not overfeed her. Apparently Liznya is having a tough time losing her pregnancy weight. We’re sending big hugs to Liznya because we all know losing weight is hard!
2021 Fattest Cat
Barsik took the literal cake in 2021 and became known as one of the fattest cats who has ever EXISTED. Weighing in at an astounding 41 pounds, Barsik had humble beginnings on the mean streets on Manhattan. Since he was too big for any of the cages in the shelter, he HAD to live in one of the offices (better deal IMO). He has since upgraded his digs to a delightful foster home and has lost over 20 lbs! Fattest Cat in History
The fattest cat to ever exist was discovered in 1980s Australia. Himmy was an astounding 46 pounds and 15 ounces tabby cat and made it to 10 years old. He still holds the Guinness Book of World Records, without much competition. Himmy was famously known for having to be carted around in a wheelbarrow. The Guinness Book of World Records stopped tracking individual cats because people were overfeeding their cats just to get into the book. The record is now recognized by the weight and size of breed; individual cats are no longer listed.
Samson
Samson is a very hefty feline residing in New York City. Maybe friends with Barsik?! He is diagnosed with hip dysplasia and some solid weight. His Instagram fans are a bit worried for Samson but his owner and vet say he’s purr-fect.
Maine coon cats tend to be much heavier than other breeds. When Samson first came to owner Johnathon, he weighed only 19 lbs but then quickly rose to 28 lbs. He’s 3 times the size of an average cat which means 3 times the amount of food and litter. Big bills for Samson’s owner! Samson goes through a 4 cans of wet food a day (plus some dry food *snacks*) and 4lb bag of litter every week! Samson can stretch up to 4 feet long takes up HALF of his owner’s bed! He has a very active Instagram feed .
